Summit Cold Storage – Summit, IL
A leading regional operator of refrigerated truck lines, JKC Trucking chose to pursue a strategy of vertical integration through expansion into the public refrigerated warehouse business and cross-dock operations. The company purchased real estate ideally located at the intersection of two major Chicago area interstates, and chose Tippmann Group to engineer and construct the facility at that site.
Built according to Tippmann’s Fast-Track construction, the resulting 75,000 square foot facility houses the company’s corporate headquarters, as well as the warehouse and cross-dock operations.
Summit Cold Storage was particularly happy with Tippmann’s ability to meet their tight time frames, and out of the ordinary site conditions and configuration. It was especially valuable to work with a contractor who understands critical details such as optimal heights for racking and floor layouts and who could help them be successful right from the start.
They filled their warehouse within one year after it was completed. That’s when Summit contacted Tippmann about expansion.
As is typical of the buildings designed and built by Tippmann, the master plan allows for expansion, making it easier when the need arises. The end result of Summit’s 81,000 square foot expansion allowed the company to increase the size of its warehouse without the need for additional infrastructure.
