Dawn Food Products – Merrillville, IN
Dawn Food Products was researching options in the Chicagoland area to support continued growth in its business and chose to engage Tippmann Group for a new design/build project. Dawn knew Tippmann well because of their previous work relationship as both a construction customer on two expansions to one of their facilities several years ago, and as a PRW customer of Interstate Warehousing.
After touring Interstate Warehousing’s Joliet, IL and Franklin, IN facilities, Dawn felt comfortable with Tippmann Group’s knowledge of the market and ability to deliver a quality project. Dawn faced some hurdles and critical timing issues adding complexity to the project. Tippmann Group partnered with Dawn, dispatching a team of professionals to deal with the complexities and assist Dawn in moving the project forward.
Tippmann and Dawn’s teams worked together to create a building with three temperature zones in a cost-effective solution which included Tippmann retaining ownership of the building and agreeing to a long-term lease with Dawn Foods.
This project also showcased Tippmann’s ability to allocate resources in reaction to a major weather event. “Tippmann Construction overcame a catastrophic storm that destroyed half of the building,” said Eric Metzendorf, President, Dawn Foods Bakery Division. “They finished the building after an amazingly short delay!”
The new state-of-the-art facility covers 116,000 square feet and holds more than 10,000 pallets. It also features an energy efficient design, including LED motion sensor lighting.
