AWG – Associated Wholesale Grocers – Pearl River, LA
Associated Wholesale Grocers needed a new facility large enough to support business that was being moved out of Oklahoma City, Memphis and Nashville, which would also service their new market in Louisiana.
During this time, they were also experiencing problems with the roof and refrigeration at their Oklahoma City facility. Tippmann Construction went in and helped fix that problem, giving AWG the confidence in Tippmann for the massive project coming in Pearl River, LA.
At that same time, AWG executives had a chance to tour the Interstate Warehousing facility in Franklin, Indiana which helped them visualize the quality and level of detail that goes into every facility built by Tippmann Construction.
One of the issues that would have to be addressed was the site conditions at their new property. The ground had a high water content, so the site needed to be surcharged. 3-4 months of site work went into the project before the building itself could be started.
The building also had to be built to withstand hurricane force winds, due to it’s proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and the regular occurrence of hurricanes.
The resulting 720,000 square foot facility features multiple temperature zones for frozen, refrigerated and dry products and services many small retailers in the region.
