Following in the
footsteps of the successful Sara Lee and Tippmann
Group project in Macon, Georgia, Sara Lee’s
distribution network was beginning to take
shape, and this location in Eastern Pennsylvania
would give them another opportunity to create
a new dedicated mixing center for Sara Lee
Foods.
Sara Lee asked Tippmann Group
to assist with the site selection, trying
to find an area where transportation and the
availability of a quality labor force was
not going to be an issue. Tippmann conducted
a study to help locate the best possible site
to fit the needs of Sara Lee’s network.
Once the site in Highridge
Industrial Park in Pottsville was selected,
Tippmann Group worked with Pennsylvania State
and local economic development officials to
negotiate an incentive package and to begin
site work quickly so the timing of the construction
project would not be disturbed.
The completed 182,000 square
foot mixing center sits in a prime distribution
location, immediately off I-81 in Pennsylvania,
and features excellent visibility and access
to the highway. Inside the facility are 80,000
square feet of freezer storage space and 52,000
square feet of cooler. A 26,000 square foot
temperature-controlled dock and two-story
office also highlight the building.
This is one of four Sara Lee
projects completed by Tippmann Group within
2 years.
