One
of the nation's largest independently owned
food retailers, H.E. Butt Grocery Co. serves
families all over Texas and Mexico with more
than 275 grocery stores. The $7.5 billion
company, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas
was expanding its stores in Houston aggressively,
and needed additional refrigerated warehouse
space to support its growth.
When
H.E. Butt Grocery Co. executives first met
Tippmann, they had already started preliminary
work on their new perishable distribution
center in Houston with another engineering
firm. However, after they toured several Tippmann
facilities and saw the substantial savings
possible through well-planned design, they
discontinued the relationship with this other
firm and retained Tippmann to build their
new facility.
Rick
Roberts, Senior Project Engineer at H.E. Butt
Grocery Co. said, "Tippmann helped us
save substantial dollars over the previously
estimated budget for our distribution complex.
Further, we have a superior facility —
one that will serve our company longer and
will boost our overall efficiency." Tippmann
broke ground in January, and finished five
months later in May, so even with the change
in firms, H.E. Butt Grocery Co. managed to
meet its original schedule.
