Food Service is the largest, privately held
foodservice distributor in North America.
GFS has been in the foodservice industry for
more than 100 years, and is still a family-owned
company.
When the time came for GFS to build on their
already successful distribution operations,
they didn’t have to look far. GFS was
already familiar with Tippmann Group as an
owner and operator of Interstate Warehousing,
one of the largest public refrigerated warehouse
companies in North America.
That relationship carried over into the construction
of their new 165,000 square-foot distribution
center in Brighton, Michigan. The new facility
features freezer, cooler and dry storage areas,
23 dock doors, a one story office area, machine
room and maintenance room. Master planning
was also put into place for future expansion
when the need arises.
One of the highlights of this facility are
the SPX Dock Doors, which allow trailers to
back up to the dock with their doors still
sealed. The doors are then opened inside the
facility, enhancing product safety.
The site also includes off-street truck staging,
tractor and trailer parking, car parking,
and outdoor welfare areas.
