Farmer
Jack, a division of the Great Atlantic &
Pacific Tea Company (A&P), has expanded
quickly throughout Michigan in the last decade.
To support this aggressive growth, the company
needed a new refrigerated warehouse in the
Detroit market to complement its distribution
center.
A&P
executives began discussions with Tippmann
Group, and were impressed with the range of
planning and consulting services Tippmann
could bring to their project. From the beginning
stages of site selection, a Tippmann team
of experts prepared a master distribution
plan for the facility, which includes a five
and ten-year plan. Tippmann then assisted
in the selection of a prime site located close
to an existing A&P dry facility. Even
though extra work is involved due to rejuvenation
of an existing industrial site, the facility
is scheduled to be finished well within the
company's aggressive time frame.
A&P's
new 400,000 square foot facility, consisting
of about 266,000 square feet perishable storage
and a 134,000 square foot freezer, features
a flow-through design with docks on both sides,
state-of-the-art banana rooms and ice cream
storage. A&P's John Metzger, Senior Vice
President - Supply & Logistics, says,
"Tippmann helped us with almost every
aspect of planning for this efficient, new
facility, and their specialized expertise
is helping make it a showpiece."
